List of Safety Alerts Concerning Crane Accidents

Recently, several crane accidents have occurred on leases in the Gulf ofMexico, Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). In addition to our normal investigationsinto these recent incidents, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) has convenedan internal working group to review the entire realm of crane safety. When thisgroup completes its findings, MMS will issue a report on crane safety.

In the interim, and so that a more proactive approach at preventing arecurrence of crane accidents may be taken, we have attached copies of previousSafety Alerts concerning crane accidents that have occurred in the Gulf ofMexico OCS. All OCS operators have a positive responsibility to conduct theiroperations in a safe manner; they must be familiar with these incidents, so thatthey may design and plan their work to avoid similar incidents.
