OCS Offshore Well Directional Survey Data
A directional survey is the method of used to obtain the measurements needed to calculate and plot the 3D well path. Directionally drilled wells represent an efficient way to reach special targets that are difficult to reach using vertically drilled wells. A drawback of directional drilling is higher cost, but the advantage is that surface construction may be minimized while still reaching the intended targets. The main factor in the cost of a directional well is the horizontal distance to the target. The objective of the present study is to present the calculations that show the well path in a 3D space, and to develop the model that gives the minimum drilling length for these wells.
